Greece shares higher at close of trade; Athens General Composite up 2.77%

Investing.com – Greece equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Banking , Oil & Gas and Construction sectors propelled shares higher.

At the close in Athens, the Athens General Composite gained 2.77%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the Athens General Composite were Piraeus Bank SA (AT: BOPr ), which rose 8.52% or 0.216 points to trade at 2.750 at the close. J. & P. Avax (AT: AVAr ) added 8.28% or 0.042 points to end at 0.549 and Eurobank Ergasias SA (AT: EURBr ) was up 7.78% or 0.0700 points to 0.9700 in late trade.

Biggest losers included ThesKi Port (AT: OLTr ), which lost 4.15% or 1.10 points to trade at 25.40 in late trade. European Reliance General Insurance Co SA (AT: EREr ) declined 2.94% or 0.110 points to end at 3.630 and Crete Plastics SA (AT: PLAKR ) shed 2.92% or 0.400 points to 13.300.

Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 87 to 24 and 16 ended unchanged on the Athens Stock Exchange.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was down 0.44% or 5.70 to $1294.40 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July fell 0.78% or 0.52 to hit $66.52 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract fell 1.12% or 0.87 to trade at $76.69 a barrel.

EUR/USD was down 0.13% to 1.1677, while EUR/GBP fell 0.48% to 0.8752.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.15% at 94.09.
