Greece shares higher at close of trade; Athens General-Composite up 2.80%

Investing.com – Greece equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Banking , Telecoms and Financials sectors propelled shares higher.

At the close in Athens, the Athens General-Composite added 2.80% to hit a new 1-month high.

The biggest gainers of the session on the Athens General-Composite were Eurobank Ergasias SA (AT: EURBr ), which rose 17.32% or 0.079 points to trade at 0.535 at the close. Piraeus Bank SA (AT: BOPr ) added 14.96% or 0.019 points to end at 0.146 and National Bank of Greece (AT: NBGr ) was up 10.53% or 0.02 points to 0.21 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Flexopack SA (AT: FLXr ), which lost 5.31% or 0.1300 points to trade at 2.3200 in late trade. Sarantiseg (AT: SRSr ) declined 3.08% or 0.30 points to end at 9.45 and Grivalia Properties REIC (AT: GRIr ) shed 2.78% or 0.20 points to 6.99.

Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 69 to 30 and 13 ended unchanged on the Athens Stock Exchange.

In commodities trading, Gold for December delivery was down 0.41% or 5.45 to $1311.05 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October fell 2.96% or 1.37 to hit $44.98 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract fell 3.00% or 1.46 to trade at $47.27 a barrel.

EUR/USD was up 0.03% to 1.1146, while EUR/GBP fell 0.22% to 0.8500.

The US Dollar Index was up 0.06% at 96.11.
