India shares lower at close of trade; Nifty 50 down 1.69%

Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Real Estate , Auto and Green Energy sectors propelled shares lower.

At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 lost 1.69%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index declined 1.59%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (NS: SUN ), which rose 1.11% or 4.60 points to trade at 420.15 at the close. Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (NS: PGRD ) added 0.03% or 0.05 points to end at 183.50 and HDFC Bank Ltd (NS: HDBK ) was down 0.11% or 2.40 points to 2097.05 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Indiabulls Housing Finance Ltd (NS: INBF ), which lost 5.97% or 46.35 points to trade at 733.35 in late trade. Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (NS: MRTI ) declined 4.67% or 353.05 points to end at 7209.70 and Tech Mahindra Ltd (NS: TEML ) shed 4.38% or 31.85 points to 696.40.

The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO: SUN ) which rose 1.57% to 420.10, Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (BO: PGRD ) which was down 0.05% to settle at 183.30 and HDFC Bank Ltd (BO: HDBK ) which lost 0.35% to close at 2092.00.

The worst performers were Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (BO: MRTI ) which was down 4.63% to 7209.70 in late trade, Tata Motors Ltd DVR (BO: TAMdv ) which lost 4.22% to settle at 88.60 and Tata Motors Ltd (BO: TAMO ) which was down 4.02% to 162.40 at the close.

Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1258 to 328 and 54 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1752 fell and 717 advanced, while 140 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.

The India VIX , which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 4.98% to 19.3050.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.06% or 0.80 to $1241.80 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January fell 4.42% or 2.34 to hit $50.55 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract fell 4.47% or 2.75 to trade at $58.81 a barrel.

USD/INR was up 0.30% to 70.875, while EUR/INR rose 0.29% to 80.2660.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.11% at 97.115.
