India shares lower at close of trade; Nifty 50 down 0.02%

Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Monday, as losses in the Capital Goods , Banking and Fast Moving Consumer Goods sectors propelled shares lower.

At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 lost 0.02%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index lost 0.17%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were HCL Technologies Ltd (NS: HCLT ), which rose 3.65% or 27.50 points to trade at 780.45 at the close. Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (NS: TCS ) added 3.40% or 88.95 points to end at 2708.25 and TATA STEEL LIMITED (NS: TISC ) was up 2.76% or 9.80 points to 364.85 in late trade.

Biggest losers included ICICI Bank Ltd . (NS: ICBK ), which lost 5.10% or 13.40 points to trade at 249.50 in late trade. Larsen & Toubro Limited (NS: LART ) declined 4.18% or 65.15 points to end at 1493.70 and Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. (NS: BHEL ) shed 2.78% or 4.05 points to 141.85.

The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (BO: TCS ) which rose 3.03% to 2698.00, TATA STEEL LIMITED (BO: TISC ) which was up 2.71% to settle at 364.35 and Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (BO: MRTI ) which gained 2.41% to close at 4869.80.

The worst performers were ICICI Bank Ltd. (BO: ICBK ) which was down 5.19% to 249.20 in late trade, Larsen & Toubro Limited (BO: LART ) which lost 4.12% to settle at 1493.80 and Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. (BO: BHEL ) which was down 2.74% to 141.80 at the close.

Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 944 to 524 and 63 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1008 fell and 617 advanced, while 53 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.

The India Vix , which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 1.76% to 15.1800.

In commodities trading, Gold for December delivery was down 0.19% or 2.55 to $1354.95 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September fell 1.30% or 0.54 to hit $41.06 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract fell 1.36% or 0.59 to trade at $42.94 a barrel.

USD/INR was up 0.12% to 66.778, while EUR/INR rose 0.09% to 74.5500.

The US Dollar Index was up 0.14% at 95.66.
