Investing.com – Italy equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Telecoms, Utilities and Oil & Gas sectors propelled shares lower.

At the close in Milan, the Investing.com Italy 40 fell 1.75% to hit a new 52-week low.

The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com Italy 40 were Recordati (MI:RECI), which rose 2.34% or 0.71 points to trade at 31.01 at the close. Salvatore Ferragamo SpA (MI:SFER) added 1.56% or 0.28 points to end at 17.93 and Moncler SpA (MI:MONC) was up 0.94% or 0.26 points to 28.05 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Banca Mediolanum SpA (MI:BMED), which lost 4.98% or 0.254 points to trade at 4.846 in late trade. Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV (MI:FCHA) declined 3.86% or 0.506 points to end at 12.618 and Telecom Italia (MI:TLIT) shed 3.68% or 0.0184 points to 0.4820.

Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 267 to 101 and 19 ended unchanged on the Milan Stock Exchange.

In commodities trading, Crude oil for February delivery was down 3.73% or 1.74 to $44.87 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in March fell 3.83% or 2.12 to hit $53.17 a barrel, while the February Gold Futures contract rose 0.80% or 10.15 to trade at $1279.90 a troy ounce.

EUR/USD was up 0.77% to 1.1440, while EUR/GBP rose 0.62% to 0.9043.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.55% at 96.045.
