Japan shares higher at close of trade; Nikkei 225 up 0.28%

Investing.com – Japan equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Banking , Automobiles & Parts and Steel sectors propelled shares higher.

At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 added 0.28%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Astellas Pharma Inc. (T: 4503 ), which rose 2.35% or 40.0 points to trade at 1739.8 at the close. Eisai Co., Ltd. (T: 4523 ) added 2.25% or 181.0 points to end at 8226.0 and Mitsui Engineering & Shipbuilding (T: 7003 ) was up 2.20% or 33.0 points to 1530.0 in late trade.

Biggest losers included JGC Corp. (T: 1963 ), which lost 3.41% or 78.0 points to trade at 2209.0 in late trade. TOTO Ltd. (T: 5332 ) declined 3.10% or 180.0 points to end at 5630.0 and Otsuka Holdings Ltd (T: 4578 ) shed 3.04% or 167.0 points to 5332.0.

Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 2020 to 1309 and 241 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.

The Nikkei Volatility , which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 8.48% to 15.00.

In commodities trading, Crude oil for July delivery was up 0.48% or 0.31 to $65.06 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in August rose 0.19% or 0.14 to hit $75.43 a barrel, while the August Gold Futures contract fell 0.06% or 0.80 to trade at $1296.50 a troy ounce.

USD/JPY was up 0.03% to 109.84, while EUR/JPY rose 0.16% to 128.65.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.16% at 93.87.
