Japan shares higher at close of trade; Nikkei 225 up 0.28%

Investing.com – Japan equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Banking , Pharmaceutical Industry and Manufacturing sectors propelled shares higher.

At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 added 0.28%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Showa Denko K.K. (T: 4004 ), which rose 4.07% or 119.0 points to trade at 3040.0 at the close. Denki Kagaku Kogyo K.K. (T: 4061 ) added 3.43% or 24.0 points to end at 723.0 and Toho Zinc Co., Ltd. (T: 5707 ) was up 3.37% or 17.0 points to 522.0 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Nippon Telegraph & Telephone Corp (T: 9432 ), which lost 2.49% or 136.0 points to trade at 5332.0 in late trade. Fujikura Ltd. (T: 5803 ) declined 2.46% or 22.0 points to end at 872.0 and Furukawa Electric Co., Ltd. (T: 5801 ) shed 2.35% or 140.0 points to 5820.0.

Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1940 to 1245 and 277 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.

The Nikkei Volatility , which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 2.51% to 15.14.

In commodities trading, Crude oil for October delivery was down 0.91% or 0.43 to $46.80 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in November fell 0.74% or 0.39 to hit $52.47 a barrel, while the December Gold Futures contract rose 0.17% or 2.21 to trade at $1324.41 a troy ounce.

USD/JPY was up 0.07% to 110.06, while EUR/JPY fell 0.02% to 130.94.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.08% at 92.66.
