Japan shares higher at close of trade; Nikkei 225 up 0.58%

Investing.com – Japan equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Paper & Pulp , Chemical and Pharmaceutical Industry sectors propelled shares higher.

At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 rose 0.58%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Showa Shell Sekiyu K.K. (T: 5002 ), which rose 4.94% or 100.0 points to trade at 2125.0 at the close. Furukawa Electric Co., Ltd. (T: 5801 ) added 4.55% or 155.0 points to end at 3560.0 and Isuzu Motors, Ltd. (T: 7202 ) was up 4.51% or 72.0 points to 1669.0 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Yamato Holdings Co., Ltd. (T: 9064 ), which lost 3.11% or 106.0 points to trade at 3306.0 in late trade. Oji Holdings Corp. (T: 3861 ) declined 2.89% or 21.0 points to end at 706.0 and Nippon Paper Industries Co., Ltd. (T: 3863 ) shed 2.19% or 43.0 points to 1921.0.

Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 2515 to 898 and 190 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.

The Nikkei Volatility , which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 6.76% to 15.87.

In commodities trading, Crude oil for October delivery was up 0.67% or 0.44 to $66.28 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in October rose 0.92% or 0.67 to hit $73.30 a barrel, while the December Gold Futures contract rose 0.02% or 0.20 to trade at $1200.20 a troy ounce.

USD/JPY was up 0.13% to 110.39, while EUR/JPY fell 0.02% to 127.55.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.13% at 95.25.
