Japan shares higher at close of trade; Nikkei 225 up 0.26%

Investing.com – Japan equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Transportation Equipment , Marine Transport and Mining sectors propelled shares higher.

At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 gained 0.26%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were DOWA Holdings Co., Ltd. (T: 5714 ), which rose 5.60% or 40.0 points to trade at 754.0 at the close. Yokogawa Electric Corp. (T: 6841 ) added 3.59% or 51.0 points to end at 1473.0 and Asahi Kasei Corp. (T: 3407 ) was up 3.20% or 26.7 points to 860.1 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Tokyo Electric Power Co., Inc. (T: 9501 ), which lost 7.89% or 33.0 points to trade at 385.5 in late trade. Mitsui Engineering & Shipbuilding (T: 7003 ) declined 2.03% or 3.0 points to end at 145.0 and Showa Shell Sekiyu K.K. (T: 5002 ) shed 1.95% or 19.0 points to 955.0.

Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1841 to 1031 and 410 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.

The Nikkei Volatility , which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 0.55% to 19.90.

In commodities trading, Crude oil for November delivery was down 0.46% or 0.23 to $50.12 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in December fell 0.40% or 0.21 to hit $51.74 a barrel, while the December Gold contract rose 0.04% or 0.55 to trade at $1256.05 a troy ounce.

USD/JPY was down 0.06% to 104.10, while EUR/JPY rose 0.05% to 114.43.

The US Dollar Index was down 0.12% at 97.96.
