Japan shares higher at close of trade; Nikkei 225 up 0.36%

Investing.com – Japan equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Mining , Insurance and Shipbuilding sectors propelled shares higher.

At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 added 0.36%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were SUMCO Corp. (T: 3436 ), which rose 11.51% or 94.0 points to trade at 911.0 at the close. Fujitsu Ltd. (T: 6702 ) added 9.17% or 43.0 points to end at 512.0 and Chiyoda Corp. (T: 6366 ) was up 7.49% or 56.0 points to 804.0 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Matsui Securities Co., Ltd. (T: 8628 ), which lost 4.38% or 41.0 points to trade at 895.0 in late trade. Chugai Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. (T: 4519 ) declined 3.26% or 110.0 points to end at 3265.0 and Keisei Electric Railway Co., Ltd. (T: 9009 ) shed 3.18% or 39.0 points to 1188.0.

Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1033 to 853 and 171 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.

The Nikkei Volatility , which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 0.90% to 22.02.

In commodities trading, Crude oil for September delivery was up 0.97% or 0.47 to $48.69 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in October rose 0.53% or 0.27 to hit $51.16 a barrel, while the December Gold contract fell 0.28% or 3.85 to trade at $1353.35 a troy ounce.

USD/JPY was up 0.20% to 100.09, while EUR/JPY rose 0.11% to 113.53.

The US Dollar Index was up 0.13% at 94.23.
