Japan shares lower at close of trade; Nikkei 225 down 0.16%

Investing.com – Japan equities were lower at the close on Monday, as losses in the Glass , Automobiles & Parts and Services sectors propelled shares lower.

At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 fell 0.16% to hit a new 6-month low.

The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Shin-Etsu Chemical Co., Ltd. (T: 4063 ), which rose 8.01% or 677.0 points to trade at 9130.0 at the close. The Kansai Electric Power Co. (T: 9503 ) added 6.40% or 107.5 points to end at 1788.0 and Chubu Electric Power Co., Inc. (T: 9502 ) was up 4.99% or 80.5 points to 1692.5 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Ricoh Co., Ltd. (T: 7752 ), which lost 10.61% or 127.0 points to trade at 1070.0 in late trade. Meidensha Corp. (T: 6508 ) declined 6.45% or 104.0 points to end at 1508.0 and Fujitsu Ltd. (T: 6702 ) shed 5.44% or 381.0 points to 6622.0.

Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 2593 to 936 and 144 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.

The Nikkei Volatility , which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 3.63% to 28.11.

In commodities trading, Crude oil for December delivery was down 0.55% or 0.37 to $67.22 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in January fell 0.61% or 0.47 to hit $77.19 a barrel, while the December Gold Futures contract fell 0.28% or 3.50 to trade at $1232.30 a troy ounce.

USD/JPY was up 0.01% to 111.91, while EUR/JPY fell 0.11% to 127.46.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.15% at 96.27.
