Japan shares lower at close of trade; Nikkei 225 down 0.72%

Investing.com – Japan equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Paper & Pulp , Railway & Bus and Real Estate sectors propelled shares lower.

At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 fell 0.72%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Tokuyama Corp. (T: 4043 ), which rose 1.97% or 49.0 points to trade at 2532.0 at the close. Amada Co., Ltd. (T: 6113 ) added 1.64% or 19.0 points to end at 1179.0 and Yahoo Japan Corp. (T: 4689 ) was up 1.63% or 5.0 points to 311.0 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Tokyo Electric Power Co., Inc. (T: 9501 ), which lost 5.71% or 32.5 points to trade at 536.5 in late trade. Tokai Carbon Co., Ltd. (T: 5301 ) declined 4.65% or 52.0 points to end at 1066.0 and JGC Corp. (T: 1963 ) shed 3.94% or 56.0 points to 1367.0.

Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 2840 to 717 and 166 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.

The Nikkei Volatility , which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was unchanged 0.00% to 16.74 a new 1-month low.

In commodities trading, Crude oil for August delivery was down 0.35% or 0.18 to $51.99 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in August fell 0.51% or 0.31 to hit $60.63 a barrel, while the August Gold Futures contract rose 0.41% or 5.45 to trade at $1348.35 a troy ounce.

USD/JPY was down 0.26% to 108.27, while EUR/JPY fell 0.07% to 121.68.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.14% at 96.915.
