Japan shares lower at close of trade; Nikkei 225 down 1.02%

Investing.com – Japan equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Shipbuilding , Chemical, Petroleum & Plastic and Pharmaceutical Industry sectors propelled shares lower.

At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 fell 1.02%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Taiyo Yuden Co., Ltd. (T: 6976 ), which rose 12.07% or 275.0 points to trade at 2554.0 at the close. Konami Corp. (T: 9766 ) added 8.47% or 365.0 points to end at 4675.0 and TDK Corp (T: 6762 ) was up 7.28% or 710.0 points to 10460.0 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Mitsui Engineering & Shipbuilding (T: 7003 ), which lost 21.05% or 400.0 points to trade at 1500.0 in late trade. Chiyoda Corp. (T: 6366 ) declined 17.79% or 100.0 points to end at 462.0 and Nisshinbo Holdings Inc. (T: 3105 ) shed 16.44% or 205.0 points to 1042.0.

Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1891 to 1625 and 175 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.

The Nikkei Volatility , which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 1.39% to 26.28.

In commodities trading, Crude oil for December delivery was down 0.61% or 0.40 to $64.91 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in January fell 0.76% or 0.57 to hit $74.47 a barrel, while the December Gold Futures contract rose 1.06% or 12.90 to trade at $1227.90 a troy ounce.

USD/JPY was down 0.08% to 112.85, while EUR/JPY rose 0.44% to 128.36.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.53% at 96.39.
