Japan shares lower at close of trade; Nikkei 225 down 1.04%

Investing.com – Japan equities were lower at the close on Monday, as losses in the Power , Shipbuilding and Automobiles & Parts sectors propelled shares lower.

At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 declined 1.04%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Astellas Pharma Inc. (T: 4503 ), which rose 3.60% or 55.8 points to trade at 1604.3 at the close. JGC Corp. (T: 1963 ) added 1.54% or 35.0 points to end at 2312.0 and The Kansai Electric Power Co. (T: 9503 ) was up 1.07% or 13.5 points to 1280.5 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Sony Corp (T: 6758 ), which lost 4.23% or 227.0 points to trade at 5144.0 in late trade. Yaskawa Electric Corp. (T: 6506 ) declined 3.78% or 195.0 points to end at 4965.0 and Nissan Chemical Industries, Ltd. (T: 4021 ) shed 2.87% or 125.0 points to 4235.0.

Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 2841 to 616 and 125 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.

The Nikkei Volatility , which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 3.37% to 21.79.

In commodities trading, Crude oil for May delivery was down 0.30% or 0.19 to $62.22 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in May fell 0.32% or 0.21 to hit $66.00 a barrel, while the April Gold Futures contract fell 0.19% or 2.50 to trade at $1309.80 a troy ounce.

USD/JPY was down 0.22% to 105.78, while EUR/JPY fell 0.35% to 129.82.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.06% at 89.85.
