Japan shares lower at close of trade; Nikkei 225 down 0.37%

Investing.com – Japan equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Mining , Paper & Pulp and Glass sectors propelled shares lower.

At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 lost 0.37%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Toshiba Corp. (T: 6502 ), which rose 4.91% or 13.6 points to trade at 290.4 at the close. Pioneer Corp. (T: 6773 ) added 4.84% or 12.0 points to end at 260.0 and Oki Electric Industry Co., Ltd. (T: 6703 ) was up 4.58% or 77.0 points to 1757.0 in late trade.

Biggest losers included SUMCO Corp. (T: 3436 ), which lost 5.48% or 87.0 points to trade at 1500.0 in late trade. Taiyo Yuden Co., Ltd. (T: 6976 ) declined 4.51% or 66.0 points to end at 1398.0 and Tosoh Corp. (T: 4042 ) shed 3.31% or 28.0 points to 819.0.

Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1829 to 1197 and 335 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.

The Nikkei Volatility , which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 2.59% to 20.29.

In commodities trading, Crude oil for February delivery was down 0.11% or 0.06 to $53.20 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in March fell 0.23% or 0.13 to hit $56.33 a barrel, while the February Gold contract rose 1.15% or 13.45 to trade at $1178.75 a troy ounce.

USD/JPY was down 1.17% to 115.88, while EUR/JPY fell 0.44% to 122.42.

The US Dollar Index was down 0.65% at 101.82.
