Japan shares lower at close of trade; Nikkei 225 down 0.82%

Investing.com – Japan equities were lower at the close on Monday, as losses in the Construction , Textile and Power sectors propelled shares lower.

At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 fell 0.82%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Toho Zinc Co., Ltd. (T: 5707 ), which rose 7.90% or 35.0 points to trade at 478.0 at the close. SUMCO Corp. (T: 3436 ) added 3.81% or 49.0 points to end at 1336.0 and Tosoh Corp. (T: 4042 ) was up 2.54% or 20.0 points to 808.0 in late trade.

Biggest losers included DeNA Co Ltd (T: 2432 ), which lost 5.63% or 185.0 points to trade at 3100.0 in late trade. Tokuyama Corp. (T: 4043 ) declined 3.20% or 14.0 points to end at 423.0 and Sumitomo Mitsui Trust Holdings (T: 8309 ) shed 3.06% or 133.5 points to 4227.5.

Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1896 to 1106 and 332 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.

The Nikkei Volatility , which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 7.57% to 19.28 a new 1-month low.

In commodities trading, Crude oil for January delivery was down 1.06% or 0.55 to $51.13 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in February fell 0.97% or 0.53 to hit $53.93 a barrel, while the February Gold contract fell 0.11% or 1.25 to trade at $1176.55 a troy ounce.

USD/JPY was down 0.04% to 113.47, while EUR/JPY fell 0.98% to 119.90.

The US Dollar Index was up 0.64% at 101.39.
