Japan shares lower at close of trade; Nikkei 225 down 1.09%

Investing.com – Japan equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Insurance , Steel and Precision Instruments sectors propelled shares lower.

At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 fell 1.09%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Taisei Corp. (T: 1801 ), which rose 1.39% or 10.5 points to trade at 764.0 at the close. Shinsei Bank, Ltd. (T: 8303 ) added 1.25% or 2.0 points to end at 161.5 and JGC Corp. (T: 1963 ) was up 1.05% or 19.0 points to 1834.0 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Toho Zinc Co., Ltd. (T: 5707 ), which lost 5.51% or 20.0 points to trade at 343.0 in late trade. Denki Kagaku Kogyo K.K. (T: 4061 ) declined 5.50% or 24.0 points to end at 412.0 and TDK Corp. (T: 6762 ) shed 5.17% or 370.0 points to 6780.0.

Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1631 to 338 and 99 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.

The Nikkei Volatility , which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 1.84% to 20.52.

In commodities trading, Crude oil for November delivery was up 0.41% or 0.21 to $51.00 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in December rose 0.48% or 0.25 to hit $52.66 a barrel, while the December Gold contract rose 0.10% or 1.25 to trade at $1257.15 a troy ounce.

USD/JPY was up 0.08% to 103.59, while EUR/JPY rose 0.02% to 114.46.

The US Dollar Index was down 0.13% at 97.59.
