Netherlands shares higher at close of trade; AEX up 0.13%
Credit: © Reuters. – Netherlands equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Healthcare , Telecoms and Basic Materials sectors propelled shares higher.

At the close in Amsterdam, the AEX gained 0.13% to hit a new 5-year high.

The biggest gainers of the session on the AEX were Philips Lighting NV (AS: LIGHT ), which rose 3.25% or 0.71 points to trade at 22.57 at the close. Koninklijke KPN NV (AS: KPN ) added 3.18% or 0.078 points to end at 2.534 and Koninklijke Philips NV (AS: PHG ) was up 3.06% or 1.14 points to 38.23 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Royal Dutch Shell PLC Class A (AS: RDSa ), which lost 2.89% or 0.865 points to trade at 29.090 in late trade. Aalberts Industries NV (AS: AALB ) declined 1.53% or 0.62 points to end at 39.86 and Altice NV (AS: ATCA ) shed 1.41% or 0.04 points to 2.80.

Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 76 to 52 and 9 ended unchanged on the Amsterdam Stock Exchange.

The AEX Volatility , which measures the implied volatility of AEX options, was down 7.28% to 11.17.

In commodities trading, Crude oil for September delivery was up 0.65% or 0.45 to $69.75 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in September rose 0.81% or 0.60 to hit $74.53 a barrel, while the August Gold Futures contract fell 0.44% or 5.40 to trade at $1226.40 a troy ounce.

EUR/USD was down 0.54% to 1.1665, while EUR/GBP fell 0.08% to 0.8885.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.45% at 94.40.
