Netherlands shares higher at close of trade; AEX up 0.84%
Credit: © Reuters. – Netherlands equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Telecoms , Basic Materials and Industrials sectors propelled shares higher.

At the close in Amsterdam, the AEX gained 0.84%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the AEX were Altice NV (AS: ATCA ), which rose 7.66% or 0.69 points to trade at 9.70 at the close. Galapagos NV (AS: GLPG ) added 3.49% or 2.720 points to end at 80.600 and ArcelorMittal SA (AS: MT ) was up 2.62% or 0.735 points to 28.760 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Koninklijke KPN NV (AS: KPN ), which lost 1.24% or 0.036 points to trade at 2.871 in late trade. Relx NV (AS: RELN ) declined 0.87% or 0.165 points to end at 18.885 and Gemalto (AS: GTO ) shed 0.18% or 0.09 points to 49.50.

Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 77 to 44 and 11 ended unchanged on the Amsterdam Stock Exchange.

The AEX Volatility , which measures the implied volatility of AEX options, was down 10.86% to 10.68.

In commodities trading, Crude oil for February delivery was up 1.74% or 1.05 to $61.42 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in March rose 1.56% or 1.04 to hit $67.61 a barrel, while the February Gold Futures contract rose 0.17% or 2.30 to trade at $1318.40 a troy ounce.

EUR/USD was down 0.26% to 1.2027, while EUR/GBP rose 0.23% to 0.8893.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.26% at 91.80.
