Netherlands shares lower at close of trade; AEX down 1.13%
Credit: © Reuters. – Netherlands equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Healthcare , Consumer Goods and Financials sectors propelled shares lower.

At the close in Amsterdam, the AEX lost 1.13% to hit a new 52-week low.

The biggest gainers of the session on the AEX were Philips Lighting NV (AS: LIGHT ), which rose 2.28% or 0.45 points to trade at 20.15 at the close. Randstad NV (AS: RAND ) added 0.59% or 0.23 points to end at 39.35 and ABN AMRO Group NV (AS: ABNd ) was up 0.19% or 0.04 points to 21.21 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Galapagos NV (AS: GLPG ), which lost 5.53% or 5.080 points to trade at 86.780 in late trade. Wolters Kluwer (AS: WLSNc ) declined 2.47% or 1.30 points to end at 51.42 and Royal Dutch Shell PLC Class A (AS: RDSa ) shed 2.34% or 0.605 points to 25.220.

Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 94 to 36 and 12 ended unchanged on the Amsterdam Stock Exchange.

The AEX Volatility , which measures the implied volatility of AEX options, was up 3.10% to 19.08.

In commodities trading, Crude oil for February delivery was down 4.80% or 2.41 to $47.79 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in February fell 3.62% or 2.16 to hit $57.45 a barrel, while the February Gold Futures contract rose 0.09% or 1.10 to trade at $1252.90 a troy ounce.

EUR/USD was up 0.17% to 1.1366, while EUR/GBP fell 0.07% to 0.8989.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.04% at 96.512.
