Russia shares higher at close of trade; MOEX Russia up 0.54%

Investing.com – Russia equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Oil & Gas , Mining and Telecoms sectors propelled shares higher.

At the close in Moscow, the MOEX Russia gained 0.54% to hit a new all time high.

The biggest gainers of the session on the MOEX Russia were MMC Norilsk Nickel (MCX: GMKN ), which rose 2.86% or 379.0 points to trade at 13639.0 at the close. Aeroflot (MCX: AFLT ) added 2.36% or 2.50 points to end at 108.60 and Severstal - ao (MCX: CHMF ) was up 2.02% or 19.30 points to 976.20 in late trade.

Biggest losers included United Company Rusal Plc (MCX: RUAL ), which lost 3.34% or 0.975 points to trade at 28.220 in late trade. NK RussNeft PAO (MCX: RNFT ) declined 2.90% or 17.4 points to end at 581.6 and MMK (MCX: MAGN ) shed 2.07% or 0.925 points to 43.745.

Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 114 to 95 and 24 ended unchanged on the Moscow Stock Exchange.

The Russian VIX , which measures the implied volatility of MOEX Russia options, was up 0.76% to 23.840.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.11% or 1.40 to $1310.30 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in March rose 2.49% or 1.33 to hit $54.64 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract rose 1.80% or 1.10 to trade at $62.30 a barrel.

USD/RUB was down 0.20% to 65.9284, while EUR/RUB fell 0.24% to 75.3125.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.05% at 95.567.
