Investing.com – Spain equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Chemical, Petroleum & Plastic, Consumer Goods and Financial Services & Real Estate sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Madrid, the IBEX 35 lost 1.27%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the IBEX 35 were Arcel. Mittal (MC:MTS), which rose 4.21% or 0.176 points to trade at 4.352 at the close. Acerinox (MC:ACX) added 1.56% or 0.153 points to end at 9.955 and Tecnicas Reunidas (MC:TRE) was up 0.57% or 0.165 points to 28.850 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Gas Natural (MC:GAS), which lost 5.53% or 0.985 points to trade at 16.835 in late trade. Mapfre (MC:MAP) declined 3.05% or 0.067 points to end at 2.127 and Merlin Properties SA (MC:MRL) shed 2.31% or 0.23 points to 9.59.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 130 to 59 and 21 ended unchanged on the Madrid Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for June delivery was up 0.56% or 7.05 to $1271.85 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 2.96% or 1.32 to hit $45.98 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract rose 3.60% or 1.64 to trade at $47.16 a barrel.
EUR/USD was up 0.51% to 1.1430, while EUR/GBP rose 0.37% to 0.7903.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.48% at 93.77.
