U.S. shares higher at close of trade; Dow Jones Industrial Average up 1.32%

Investing.com – U.S. equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Telecoms , Consumer Goods and Utilities sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 1.32%, while the S&P 500 index added 1.47%, and the NASDAQ Composite index climbed 1.68%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Wal-Mart Stores Inc (NYSE: WMT ), which rose 2.35% or 1.65 points to trade at 71.95 at the close. Procter & Gamble Company (NYSE: PG ) added 2.31% or 1.99 points to end at 88.23 and Apple Inc (NASDAQ: AAPL ) was up 2.24% or 2.31 points to 105.44 in late trade.
Biggest losers included EI du Pont de Nemours and Company (NYSE: DD ), which lost 0.35% or 0.24 points to trade at 68.19 in late trade. Exxon Mobil Corporation (NYSE: XOM ) added 0.52% or 0.45 points to end at 87.29 and JPMorgan Chase & Co (NYSE: JPM ) gained 0.65% or 0.43 points to 67.08.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Freeport-McMoran Copper & Gold Inc (NYSE: FCX ) which rose 7.98% to 11.09, Perrigo Co (NYSE: PRGO ) which was up 7.37% to settle at 95.25 and News Corp B (NASDAQ: NWS ) which gained 6.30% to close at 14.50.
The worst performers were Kroger Company (NYSE: KR ) which was down 1.97% to 30.89 in late trade, Extra Space Storage Inc (NYSE: EXR ) which lost 1.74% to settle at 78.53 and Marathon Oil Corporation (NYSE: MRO ) which was down 1.28% to 15.47 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were SORL Auto Parts Inc (NASDAQ: SORL ) which rose 23.69% to 3.550, Raptor Pharmaceutical Corp (NASDAQ: RPTP ) which was up 20.54% to settle at 8.98 and Resonant Inc (NASDAQ: RESN ) which gained 17.65% to close at 6.400.
The worst performers were FunctionX Inc (NASDAQ: FNCX ) which was down 20.76% to 0.2141 in late trade, Geron Corporation (NASDAQ: GERN ) which lost 19.58% to settle at 2.300 and Nxt-Id Inc (NASDAQ: NXTD ) which was down 19.57% to 3.3300 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 2240 to 952 and 61 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 1840 rose and 679 declined, while 106 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index , which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 14.11% to 15.03.
In commodities trading, Gold for December delivery was down 0.27% or 3.65 to $1330.85 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 0.31% or 0.14 to hit $46.02 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract rose 0.25% or 0.12 to trade at $48.13 a barrel.
EUR/USD was down 0.04% to 1.1231, while USD/JPY fell 0.82% to 101.88.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.18% at 95.16.
