Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the General Industrial, Forestry & Paper and Tobacco sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 0.07%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were 3I Group PLC (LON:III), which rose 3.34% or 35.50 points to trade at 1098.50 at the close. Smurfit Kappa Group PLC (LON:SKG) added 3.18% or 74.00 points to end at 2400.00 and DS Smith PLC (LON:SMDS) was up 3.01% or 10.40 points to 356.20 in late trade.
Biggest losers included International Consolidated Airlines Group S.A. (LON:ICAG), which lost 2.77% or 12.50 points to trade at 439.50 in late trade. NMC Health PLC (LON:NMC) declined 2.23% or 54.00 points to end at 2364.00 and EasyJet PLC (LON:EZJ) shed 2.07% or 18.20 points to 860.60.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1220 to 947 and 194 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.47% or 6.65 to $1424.85 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 0.14% or 0.08 to hit $57.98 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 0.16% or 0.10 to trade at $64.28 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.41% to 1.2687, while EUR/GBP rose 0.09% to 0.8953.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.28% at 95.757.
