U.K. shares lower at close of trade; Investing.com United Kingdom 100 down 0.72%

Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Industrial Transportation , Forestry & Paper and Chemicals sectors propelled shares lower.

At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 fell 0.72% to hit a new 3-month low.

The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Royal Bank of Scotland Group PLC (LON: RBS ), which rose 1.70% or 3.35 points to trade at 200.80 at the close. Spirax-Sarco Engineering PLC (LON: SPX ) added 1.29% or 110.00 points to end at 8610.00 and Ferguson Plc (LON: FERG ) was up 1.26% or 74.00 points to 5924.00 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Rolls-Royce Holdings PLC (LON: RR ), which lost 6.87% or 56.00 points to trade at 759.00 in late trade. NMC Health PLC (LON: NMC ) declined 6.00% or 144.00 points to end at 2258.00 and Centrica PLC (LON: CNA ) shed 2.67% or 1.90 points to 69.32.

Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1244 to 920 and 194 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.50% or 7.35 to $1483.85 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September fell 0.38% or 0.21 to hit $54.48 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract fell 0.33% or 0.20 to trade at $59.61 a barrel.

GBP/USD was up 0.13% to 1.2156, while EUR/GBP fell 0.11% to 0.9214.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.08% at 97.385.
