U.K. shares higher at close of trade; Investing.com United Kingdom 100 up 0.84%

Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Electrical , Real Estate Investment Trusts REITs and Real Estate sectors propelled shares higher.

At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 0.84%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Ocado Group PLC (LON: OCDO ), which rose 10.29% or 49.20 points to trade at 527.20 at the close. Land Securities Group PLC (LON: LAND ) added 4.49% or 26.80 points to end at 623.40 and Carnival PLC (LON: CCL ) was up 4.31% or 30.20 points to 730.80 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Tui AG (LON: TUIT ), which lost 6.81% or 48.00 points to trade at 656.40 in late trade. Phoenix Group Holdings PLC (LON: PHNX ) declined 4.13% or 23.40 points to end at 543.40 and Aviva PLC (LON: AV ) shed 3.48% or 14.60 points to 405.50.

Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1316 to 516 and 449 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.72% or 14.35 to $1,998.85 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May rose 1.58% or 1.15 to hit $74.12 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract rose 1.15% or 0.89 to trade at $78.48 a barrel.

GBP/USD was up 0.58% to 1.24, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.02% to 0.88.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.43% at 101.86.
