U.K. shares lower at close of trade; Investing.com United Kingdom 100 down 0.16%

Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Fixed Line Telecommunications , Real Estate Investment Trusts REITs and Mobile Telecommunications sectors propelled shares lower.

At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 lost 0.16%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Johnson Matthey PLC (LON: JMAT ), which rose 4.06% or 88.00 points to trade at 2,256.00 at the close. Diageo PLC (LON: DGE ) added 3.21% or 109.50 points to end at 3,520.00 and Compass Group PLC (LON: CPG ) was up 1.29% or 24.50 points to 1,931.00 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Ocado Group PLC (LON: OCDO ), which lost 5.33% or 36.40 points to trade at 646.00 in late trade. Samsung Electronics Co Ltd DRC (LON: 0593xq ) declined 3.97% or 51.00 points to end at 1,232.50 and Rolls-Royce Holdings PLC (LON: RR ) shed 3.10% or 3.38 points to 105.74.

Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1122 to 725 and 468 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.38% or 7.35 to $1,930.25 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in March rose 1.35% or 1.05 to hit $78.95 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract rose 1.16% or 0.98 to trade at $85.48 a barrel.

GBP/USD was unchanged 0.20% to 1.23, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.43% to 0.88.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.19% at 101.89.
