U.K. shares lower at close of trade; Investing.com United Kingdom 100 down 0.86%

Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Gas, Water & Multiutilities , Industrial Transportation and Travel & Leisure sectors propelled shares lower.

At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 fell 0.86%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were BAE Systems PLC (LON: BAES ), which rose 2.94% or 22.20 points to trade at 778.20 at the close. Rolls-Royce Holdings PLC (LON: RR ) added 2.35% or 2.04 points to end at 88.73 and Centrica PLC (LON: CNA ) was up 1.72% or 1.36 points to 80.54 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Flutter Entertainment PLC (LON: FLTRF ), which lost 4.90% or 478.00 points to trade at 9,282.00 in late trade. National Grid PLC (LON: NG ) declined 4.27% or 50.00 points to end at 1,121.00 and St. James’s Place PLC (LON: SJP ) shed 3.59% or 46.50 points to 1,247.50.

Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1059 to 729 and 501 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.21% or 3.80 to $1,852.20 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July rose 2.05% or 2.35 to hit $117.02 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract rose 2.00% or 2.31 to trade at $117.91 a barrel.

GBP/USD was down 0.95% to 1.25, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.15% to 0.85.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.83% at 102.61.
