U.K. shares lower at close of trade; Investing.com United Kingdom 100 down 1.25%

Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the Industrial Transportation , Automobiles & Parts and Construction & Materials sectors propelled shares lower.

At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 lost 1.25%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Reckitt Benckiser Group PLC (LON: RKT ), which rose 2.01% or 120.00 points to trade at 6,104.00 at the close. British American Tobacco PLC (LON: BATS ) added 1.72% or 48.50 points to end at 2,872.00 and Diageo PLC (LON: DGE ) was up 1.01% or 36.00 points to 3,599.00 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Standard Chartered PLC (LON: STAN ), which lost 6.42% or 40.60 points to trade at 591.80 in late trade. Ashtead Group PLC (LON: AHT ) declined 5.26% or 263.00 points to end at 4,737.00 and Barclays PLC (LON: BARC ) shed 4.21% or 5.88 points to 133.90.

Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1389 to 404 and 460 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was down 0.87% or 17.35 to $1,978.55 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May fell 0.67% or 0.47 to hit $69.49 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract fell 0.90% or 0.68 to trade at $75.23 a barrel.

GBP/USD was down 0.50% to 1.22, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.14% to 0.88.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.58% at 102.80.
