U.K. shares lower at close of trade; Investing.com United Kingdom 100 down 1.67%

Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Automobiles & Parts , Household Goods & Home Construction and General Retailers sectors propelled shares lower.

At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 fell 1.67% to hit a new 52-week low.

The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Rolls-Royce Holdings PLC (LON: RR ), which rose 2.34% or 1.56 points to trade at 68.26 at the close. BAE Systems PLC (LON: BAES ) added 2.00% or 16.20 points to end at 825.00 and Glencore PLC (LON: GLEN ) was up 1.25% or 6.00 points to 486.75 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Barratt Developments PLC (LON: BDEV ), which lost 12.76% or 47.30 points to trade at 323.40 in late trade. Next PLC (LON: NXT ) declined 12.21% or 650.00 points to end at 4,674.00 and Ocado Group PLC (LON: OCDO ) shed 10.17% or 53.10 points to 469.30.

Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1543 to 362 and 386 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.13% or 2.10 to $1,667.90 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November rose 0.51% or 0.42 to hit $82.57 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract rose 0.12% or 0.11 to trade at $88.16 a barrel.

GBP/USD was up 1.65% to 1.11, while EUR/GBP fell 1.15% to 0.88.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.17% at 112.32.
