U.S. shares higher at close of trade; Dow Jones Industrial Average up 0.68%

Investing.com – U.S. equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Consumer Goods , Oil & Gas and Telecoms sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.68% to hit a new all time high, while the S&P 500 index climbed 0.64%, and the NASDAQ Composite index added 1.20%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Goldman Sachs Group Inc (NYSE: GS ), which rose 3.34% or 12.78 points to trade at 395.33 at the close. Intel Corporation (NASDAQ: INTC ) added 3.32% or 1.71 points to end at 53.21 and Boeing Co (NYSE: BA ) was up 3.25% or 6.54 points to 207.86 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Home Depot Inc (NYSE: HD ), which lost 1.53% or 6.37 points to trade at 408.64 in late trade. Nike Inc (NYSE: NKE ) declined 1.20% or 2.00 points to end at 164.67 and Honeywell International Inc (NASDAQ: HON ) shed 0.82% or 1.71 points to 206.80.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Tesla Inc (NASDAQ: TSLA ) which rose 13.53% to 1199.78, Discovery Inc Class A (NASDAQ: DISCA ) which was up 7.60% to settle at 25.33 and Discovery Communications C Inc (NASDAQ: DISCK ) which gained 7.38% to close at 24.59.
The worst performers were Moderna Inc (NASDAQ: MRNA ) which was down 7.45% to 235.05 in late trade, Fortinet Inc (NASDAQ: FTNT ) which lost 7.31% to settle at 333.12 and Bio-Techne Corp (NASDAQ: TECH ) which was down 5.71% to 487.79 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Genprex Inc (NASDAQ: GNPX ) which rose 167.18% to 3.500, Immix Biopharma Inc (NASDAQ: IMMX ) which was up 62.36% to settle at 5.78 and Creative Medical Technology Holdings Inc (NASDAQ: CELZ ) which gained 44.80% to close at 3.20.
The worst performers were Jowell Global Ltd. (NASDAQ: JWEL ) which was down 59.21% to 8.790 in late trade, Ucloudlink Group Inc (NASDAQ: UCL ) which lost 42.34% to settle at 3.80 and Applied Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ: APLT ) which was down 30.50% to 6.22 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1966 to 1332 and 108 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2812 rose and 1087 declined, while 151 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index , which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 3.60% to 16.60 a new 1-month low.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was down 1.49% or 27.30 to $1801.30 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 1.09% or 0.82 to hit $76.03 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract unchanged 0.00% or 0.00 to trade at $78.94 a barrel.
EUR/USD was up 0.01% to 1.1295, while USD/JPY rose 0.01% to 115.33.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.66% at 96.222.
