After 3 years this share hasnt done a single thing
They have moved away now from purely catering to the corporate traveller and have completely revamped their marketing and target market, now focusing more on family and leisure travel. It has been well received so far and I believe this shift in focus was much needed.
trying a bit of everything hoping that something will work. Their revenue management department should all be fired. Oh wait, they don't have one, done on property by inexperienced GMs. Rates still not precovid levels.
rumour...buying 3 lodges in kathu....
We supported this share from 2020, hoping it picks up every 6 months, Covid, travel restrictions, and a whole bunch of other things. It is time to let go and invest in another stock more valuable.
PE must first unwind as earnings pick up. Thereafter will share price move higher. Recovery story intact. But will take another few earnings releases.
Thank you for the contribution, Steve! I think in 3 years time this share and company will be back to a very healthy state. The end of load shedding will be a massive contributor as well. I will buy when I can looking at 3 to 5 years down the line.
in the interim everyone is down on this share and stuck for the long run. sell and see growth elsewhere,
The rights issue during covid killed this share....only those share holders who bought then are up
Reintroduced dividend payout for the 16th March. More than doubled revenue. Occupancy levels now over 60%. 97 Million profit after all expenses and wages. And the share drops. WTF! I will never understand markets. I can only think that this was already factored into the price over the last 6 mnths.
🤣🤣🤣
The challenge lies in pricing, as average room rates are up 10% year-on-year but only 1% vs. 2019. This suggests that City Lodge has achieved the volume recovery through potentially unsustainable pricing.
500mil extra shares in issue makes 97mil profit seem like pocket change. Costs are going to have a big impact on this business, they aren't growing rate and expenses are increasing at an alarming rate. refurbs are due etc etc.....a very long game this share. dividend was hardly any good news and more a tactic to try and increase share value, it did not work
whats going on?
I think theres some inside trading going on, there was no reson for it to drop they way it did
Healthy pull back! Will enable us to propel the moon! 😁
Oo jurre, die earnings moes kkk gewees het...
Does anyone know what date interims get released?
i am anticipating good results.
R6 by December?
They survived covid so will get through a recession, if it comes. I do agree that it will be around 3-5 years before we see it go above R10 a share. Willing to wait. Alan Gray owns over 10% of the shares which gives one some comfort.
Alan gray has no choice but to wait for some up swing. They have paid a fortune for their 10% stake. why are they not increasing their share to reduce their average cost...but I agree with you it will recover somewhat and their is upswing, but it will take time
Maybe they are waiting for an confirmed upward trend to form?
A trade now of 10.5 mil just went through. Is anyone able to verify who bought those shares? I'm guessing an Alan Gray or PIC trade.
I predict a tourist boom in the festive season with South Africa presenting a bargain holiday for the US and EU with such a strong dollar.
unfortunately these tourist do not stay at city lodge hotels. our countries 5 star hotels offer fantastic value to these international tourists. City Lodge still in trouble and with their 1.2billion rights offer and around an extra 500mil shares in circulation it will take years for this share price to recover...looming recession?
I wouldn't say they are in trouble, they significantly reduced their debt after east African sales and entered new debt agreements at more favourable terms. Their occupancies are now above 50% and they are making profit again.
One is left with the impression that CLH share price desperately wants to break loose with pockets of large trades every other day but the US market and inflation is keeping it back.
Rising costs will consume City Lodge if the don't improve very soon.
rising costs affect the poor the most, this is not their consumer base.
Nice spike today! Picked up a bundle at 3,88 early this morning.
The news was indeed positive. But they are still making losses, albeit smaller losses. Will rerate when they start making profits over the next 6-12 months.
this is a copy and paste of Steven's comment below?
i meant to comment and some how pasted, i see i can’t delete comments ln this
Almost time to buy more.
i am mind blown on how i have got this wrong... this share price is terrible after such positive news.
the entire world market is in the shitter. It's a case of no matter what share you own it's going to be down, barring very few. You will only lose if you sell. Be patient and ride the dip out. If anything, it's a great time to buy some shares on sale.

I would recommend you just keep buying, City lodge is not a “quick buck”, good long term investment, i have just under 20 000 shares and im waiting in the long run for a 200x - 300x
This stock will only make significant jumps when they announce a dividend again. I see this happening next year after a  successful festive period. UK going into winter, should see a boost in tourists.
If positive results like this dont make a difference, i highly doubt a dividend will....
its moving upwards
it went down for no reason last week. it will go to R4.40 and get stuck
The third FED hike yesterday won't help the cause either across the board.
as well as Putin nuclear warning
They doubled revenue. Will be interesting to see how the market responds today. My gut tells me it won't do much, hope I'm wrong.
Any idea why the drop?
is it really strange, when the company was making a loss last year it was around R6.50 ans now with a profit, it R3.82
