@etienne.... this is 100% correct in my view. Sun International and Tsogo Sun Hotels are pumping.... but CLHJ is sluggish. This share is going nowhere... sell and invest in another stock.

We supported this share from 2020, hoping it picks up every 6 months, Covid, travel restrictions, and a whole bunch of other things. It is time to let go and invest in another stock more valuable.

PE must first unwind as earnings pick up. Thereafter will share price move higher. Recovery story intact. But will take another few earnings releases.

@Steven Pretorius Thank you for the contribution, Steve! I think in 3 years time this share and company will be back to a very healthy state. The end of load shedding will be a massive contributor as well. I will buy when I can looking at 3 to 5 years down the line.

Reintroduced dividend payout for the 16th March. More than doubled revenue. Occupancy levels now over 60%. 97 Million profit after all expenses and wages. And the share drops. WTF! I will never understand markets. I can only think that this was already factored into the price over the last 6 mnths.

The challenge lies in pricing, as average room rates are up 10% year-on-year but only 1% vs. 2019. This suggests that City Lodge has achieved the volume recovery through potentially unsustainable pricing.

500mil extra shares in issue makes 97mil profit seem like pocket change. Costs are going to have a big impact on this business, they aren't growing rate and expenses are increasing at an alarming rate. refurbs are due etc etc.....a very long game this share. dividend was hardly any good news and more a tactic to try and increase share value, it did not work

They survived covid so will get through a recession, if it comes. I do agree that it will be around 3-5 years before we see it go above R10 a share. Willing to wait. Alan Gray owns over 10% of the shares which gives one some comfort.

    • Etienne Potgieter @Etienne Potgieter
Alan gray has no choice but to wait for some up swing. They have paid a fortune for their 10% stake. why are they not increasing their share to reduce their average cost...but I agree with you it will recover somewhat and their is upswing, but it will take time

I predict a tourist boom in the festive season with South Africa presenting a bargain holiday for the US and EU with such a strong dollar.

unfortunately these tourist do not stay at city lodge hotels. our countries 5 star hotels offer fantastic value to these international tourists. City Lodge still in trouble and with their 1.2billion rights offer and around an extra 500mil shares in circulation it will take years for this share price to recover...looming recession?

    • Hulk Hutton @Hulk Hutton
@Etienne Potgieter I wouldn't say they are in trouble, they significantly reduced their debt after east African sales and entered new debt agreements at more favourable terms. Their occupancies are now above 50% and they are making profit again.

One is left with the impression that CLH share price desperately wants to break loose with pockets of large trades every other day but the US market and inflation is keeping it back.

@Rowyn Reddy the entire world market is in the shitter. It's a case of no matter what share you own it's going to be down, barring very few. You will only lose if you sell. Be patient and ride the dip out. If anything, it's a great time to buy some shares on sale.

This stock will only make significant jumps when they announce a dividend again. I see this happening next year after a  successful festive period. UK going into winter, should see a boost in tourists.
